Hypnosis is an altered or focused state of consciousness, in which the person is more open to suggestion and has a greater ability to change thoughts, behaviors, sensations and perceptions. During hypnosis, the person is in a state of deep relaxation, but at the same time is highly concentrated.
As a therapeutic tool, hypnosis can be used in a variety of ways. In psychotherapy, it is used to help patients explore thoughts, feelings and memories that may be hidden in their normal consciousness. It can also be an effective technique for managing pain, reducing stress and anxiety, and overcoming negative habits, such as smoking or overeating.
Therapeutic hypnosis, oriented towards personal development and human evolution, is a tool that enables us to improve our lives and well-being. It helps us overcome obstacles, overcome blockages and regain self-confidence. It helps improve certain behaviors, stop addictions and much more.
In full collaboration with your hypnotherapist, you decide on the pace and number of sessions required. By taking the initiative to work on yourself, you have the freedom to decide at any time whether to continue or stop the work you've begun.
A hypnosis session takes place in two clearly defined stages:
The interview phase
This is an essential stage to help you define your objective. We'll talk and I'll ask you questions to refine this objective and clarify certain points that will help me choose the best technique to use.
During this phase, I'll ask you to explain your objective and your motivations for change, as it's important that you really want this change if hypnosis is to help you. Each session is tailored to your specific problem.
In subsequent sessions, if necessary, this time is shortened. We simply review the last session and the changes that have taken place since then. Goals are reviewed if necessary.
The hypnosis phase
The session is very pleasant and relaxing.
Comfortably seated in an armchair, you let yourself be guided by my voice, even if you don't need to listen to what I'm saying. You let yourself go into this altered state of consciousness and deep relaxation.
It's important to know that you remain "aware" of your surroundings, from the beginning to the end of the session, and that you can come out of the hypnotic trance at any time, if you wish. You're always in control!
Once the therapeutic work has been completed, I invite you to return to an awake state of consciousness. We then take stock of your sensations.
During a first session, it's sometimes normal to have the impression of "having gone nowhere". This new experience of the unknown can keep you on your toes. But don't worry, changes happen anyway. Relaxation may be less obvious, but it doesn't indicate the effectiveness of the session.
Hypnosis and relaxation are not synonymous!
There is no contraindication to driving or resuming activities after the session. You'll simply feel good, deeply relaxed.
Number and duration of sessions
Hypnosis is a brief therapy. But "brief" does not mean instantaneous. Although it's common to see results from the first session, a second session is recommended to consolidate the changes.
In most cases, 2 to 5 sessions are sufficient to achieve lasting results. The number of sessions depends on the objective, the personality, the life story...
However, it's important not to have rigid expectations which would only increase the duration of your therapy and take you further away from your goal.
The first session generally lasts an hour and a half, with subsequent sessions lasting an hour.
Hypnosis is a practice to which everyone can be receptive.
There is a common misconception that some people are not receptive to hypnosis. This is a perception that often stems from show hypnosis, where only "ultra-sensitive" individuals are chosen to participate. However, just because you're not instantly hypnotized doesn't mean you're not receptive.
In therapeutic hypnosis, the process is slower, allowing the state of "hypnotic trance" to deepen. Everyone can access it, although the experience may vary according to the individual, the moment, the events of the day and, of course, the skill of the professional.
Hypnosis is suitable for everyone
Whether for adults, adolescents or children, hypnosis can be adapted to each individual. Whether you're in good health, in remission, in rehabilitation or disabled, hypnosis is accessible to all.
However, if you are undergoing medical treatment or are being followed by a psychiatrist or psychologist, it is advisable to obtain their agreement before starting hypnosis therapy.
It's important to remember that hypnosis, like any other complementary therapy, does not replace medical advice or treatment. It is used to help you manage the psychological aspects of your health.
